JP Guiao / Senior Product Designer

Based in Quebec. Currently designing estate and probate accounting software at Estateably.

AI-forward in how I work. Human judgment at the center of what I build.

A designer who learns the domain.

I’m JP Guiao, a senior product designer based in Quebec with 8+ years designing B2B and consumer products at Estateably, RenoRun, Lolë and Aylo, alongside freelance and consulting work since 2018.

I studied accounting before design, and that shaped how I work: I learn the domain deeply enough to understand the logic behind the interface. At Estateably that means estate and probate accounting. The same approach applies anywhere people rely on software to get consequential work done.

I’m drawn to products where clarity has real stakes, helping people act with less uncertainty and more confidence.

Design principles

01 / Speak the user’s language

Design around the mental models and vocabulary of the people doing the work.

02 / Make complexity calm

Give people a clear next step without hiding the detail they need.

03 / Trust is a design material

Make status, consequences, and sources visible, especially when AI is involved.

04 / Frame the problem before the pixels

Define what needs to change and why before deciding what the interface should look like.

05 / Outcomes over output

Judge the work by what improves for people, not by how many screens we ship.

06 / Think in systems

Build shared patterns that keep the product consistent as workflows and teams grow.

How I work

I work closely with product managers, engineers, and domain experts to frame problems and make tradeoffs explicit. Research keeps decisions grounded in how people actually work, and shared patterns keep the product consistent as it grows.

I bring AI into my workflow and product thinking with the same question: does this make the work clearer, more useful, and more trustworthy?

In the workflow

I use AI to explore alternatives, pressure-test assumptions, and get to testable prototypes faster. Generated output is a starting point, not evidence.

In the product

I design AI features that reduce effort without hiding what matters, with clear sources, visible confidence, and human review before anything consequential.

With clear boundaries

My standard is to protect sensitive information, check outputs against reliable sources, and keep people in control. In high-stakes workflows, speed never replaces accountability.

Let’s talk about complex products.

If your team builds tools people rely on to get real work done, I’d welcome a conversation.
